The Cultural Edge

It's Not Just English —
It's How You Think in It

German business communication is precise, thorough, and well-reasoned. English business communication is often direct, brief, and relationship-led. I help you translate not just words — but intent.

💬

Directness vs. Diplomacy

Learn when to soften, when to assert, and how to disagree professionally in English-speaking business contexts.

📊

Data-Driven vs. Story-Driven

German audiences want facts first. English-speaking audiences often need narrative first. I show you how to do both.

🤝

Building Rapport Across Cultures

Small talk, meeting openers, humour — the unspoken rules that make or break international business relationships.

🇩🇪 German Style
🇬🇧 English Style
Thorough background first
Conclusion up front
Formal titles & hierarchy
First names, flat tone
Disagreement = technical debate
Disagreement = diplomatically indirect
Detailed slide content
Sparse slides, verbal delivery
Silence = thinking
Silence = awkward, fill it
Written confirmation expected
Verbal agreement often sufficient

About Me

Catherine Stuckey

Business English & Presentation Coach · Cultural Communication Specialist

American presentation and communication coach with 15+ years of experience helping German professionals perform with confidence on the international stage. My career began in Tokyo as part of the Japanese government's JET Programme, where I first discovered how much culture shapes communication — not just language. That insight has guided everything I've done since.

After a decade training professionals at major German corporations — including BASF, Siemens, ABB, John Deere, and Rittershaus Law Firm — I specialised in the cultural and communication gap between German and Anglo-American business culture. When an American company acquired BASF's pharmaceutical branch, I designed courses specifically to bridge that gap. I know exactly where German professionals get stuck, and how to fix it.

My coaching covers presentation skills, cross-cultural communication, and business English — delivered 1-on-1, in group workshops, and through in-house corporate training. Based in Konstanz, Germany. Originally from the US. Also lived in Tokyo, Barcelona, and Mannheim — which means I bring a genuinely international perspective to everything I do. My writing has been published in VESTED Magazine.
